Music Monday: Death Throes of the Terrorsquid
30th-Apr-2012 09:19 am
teehee, haha
This is a song called "Death Throes of the Terrorsquid". It is simultaneously hilarious and fucking epic. (Sample lyric, "We've defeated Vikings, and ninjas we have slain!")

I seem to remember a period when heavy metal bands felt required to take themselves seriously. I am so glad that proved to be a historical blip.

That's awesome and silly. Was the part of the squid actually played by an octopus? I can imagine that it's harder to get lively stunt squid than stunt octopodes.

I assume some amount of it is CGI, but there may have been stunt octopodes involved as well. I don't know much about how the video was made, but it's pretty impressive looking for what I assume was a fairly low-budget production.

Power metal and its derivatives more or less never took themselves seriously - or, at least, they never stopped having songs about elves and dragons and valkyries and the burninating of things. The likes of Blind Guardian have provided me with work music for years.

Even on the purportedly harder end of metal, there are bands like Bolt Thrower. Which sings Warhammer 40k-themed death metal...

For a variety of reasons, I drifted away from closely following what was going on in metal in the mid-to-late nineties. I am now somewhat belatedly discovering that the genre was having a hell of a lot of fun while I was away.
