Chicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love ItChicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love It by Lynne M. Thomas

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A fun collection that takes in nearly every possible female perspective on Doctor Who, from interviews with actresses to academic essays, from costuming to fanzine fandom, from the oldest of Old School to the newest of New School, and from unabashed squee to serious critique. I think any fan of Doctor Who regardless of their gender, will find something they identify with here, and probably also things that will surprise, intrigue, or even provoke them a bit.

I'd love to see some of the essays revamped or expanded in future to take in Matt Smith's tenure on the show - certainly both Amy Pond and River Song would provide plenty of fodder for discussions of the show's alternately (or simultaneously) inspiring and problematic portrayal of female characters. Maybe a few years down the road, we can have Digging It All Again: More Chicks, More Time Lords?

I was wondering about this book, and your review has persuaded me to give it serious look. :)

I have this book and have yet to take the time to crack it open (don't tell my friend who gave it to me). I think I'll at least start with the Babiez comic! :)

I had my copy for quite a while before I cracked it open, but once I got started I found it a nice easy read. And you can't go wrong with Torchwood Babiez!
