It's not a noble motivation, but I will confess: One of the reasons that I'd like to get really strong is so that the next time someone gives me one of those, "Oooh, good for you, keep at it, you'll get really fit" speeches at the gym, where they blithely assume that I just started working out last week, I can just give them A Look and say, "Honey, I can bench press you. For reps."

(I know people mean well, and generally in the gym, I'll take all the encouragement I can get. It's the people who assume I'm a walking "Before" photo who chap my hide.)

The trainer I signed up with for a few sessions did sort of the reverse, which pleased me: at one point she said "you're stronger than you think."

I have a similar set of motivations. For some reason, in my head, if I can bench press a person, I do not need to feel cowed or intimidated by said person.
